The substation was built by subsidiaries of Samruk-Kazyna jointly with the Administration of Almaty region. It is designed to solve problems of power supply of the surrounding areas and suburbs of Almaty.

Substation Kaskelen has been launched In Batan village of Almaty region. The substation is one of the most modern power facilities of the region, built by subsidiaries of Samruk-Kazyna jointly with the Administration of Almaty region, zakon.kz reports.

Akhmetzhan Yessimov, the Chairman of the Board of Samruk-Kazyna Fund, and Amandyk Batalov, head of administration (akim) of Almaty region, participated in the event. They pointed out that problems of power supply in two largest districts of Almaty region (Karasay and Zhambyl), as well as in the west suburbs of Almaty, are now solved.

Construction of substation Kaskelen has been financed out of funds of the Administration (akimat) of Almaty region and Alatau Zharyk Company JSC within the framework of the program "Development of regions - 2020". Value of the project amounts to 4.73 billion KZT.

- Over the past 12 years, the situation with the region's power supply has changed dramatically. In 2008 we considered the ways of solving problems of blackouts in Almaty, and the current facilities built by Samruk-Energy are aimed at prospects of development of the region and the city among other goals. Today, we, me and akim of the region, can confidently say that issue of energy security of Almaty agglomeration has been solved, - Yessimov said.

It should be remembered that issue of reliable supply of electric power and heat for consumers has been always a priority issue for him. It was Yessimov, who being at the position of the head of administration (akim) of Almaty, has commenced and completed the program of reliable power supply for the city, that allowed to ensure fault-free power supply for Almaty.
Yessimov was at the position of the head of administration (akim) of Almaty from April 2008 to August 2015. In 2008 he started to implement the program of reliable power supply for the city, and he continued to be engaged with this program after leaving the position of the head of administration.

Today, upgraded station Kaskelen with the capacity of 250 MegaVolt-Amper (MVA) will supply electric power for consumers of Karasay and Zhambyl districts of Almaty region, the west suburbs of Almaty.

Currently, the substation  has already started serving more than 6 thousand individuals and more than 400 legal entities. By 2030, it is planned to supply power for more than 50 thousand individuals and more than 4 thousand legal entities, as well as consumers of the industrial zone "Kokozek".

From his part, the head of administration of Almaty region pointed out the importance of building the substation at this place, because districts adjacent to Almaty have facilities that need fault-free electric power supply.

- Total volume of industrial production of Almaty region achieved about 1 trillion tenge by the end of 2019.  In particular, thanks to the districts adjacent to Almaty, where large enterprises and industrial facilities are located. For further successful work, it is necessary to provide uninterrupted power to the region, - Batalov explained.

32 substations were constructed and reconstructed for the period 2007-2015. And almost half of them - at the expense of the local budget. Also, during the construction, the equipment and services of domestic suppliers were used to the maximum, which allowed to increase the Kazakhstani content to 39 percent. As a result, the total increase in capacity was more than three thousand MVA.
